Build a career in a supportive culture of caring

“Employee Spotlight” with Ellen Cola, RN Supervisor, Bobbi Lewis House

Ellen Cola, RN

From a very young age growing up in Haiti, Ellen said, “I was always drawn to going out of my way to make sure people around me were as comfortable as possible.”

Ellen began her Jawonio career in nursing in 2014. Her first assignment was as an LPN at our Bobbi Lewis Home in Chestnut Ridge, NY.

Tell us about your educational background?

I completed my associate degree at Rockland Community College and my BS at Chamberlain and Azure University

Ellen, you started working right after high school and your journey brought you to Jawonio, tell us about that

After high school I was employed as an aide for a home health care agency  while attending RCC to receive my LPN License.

I came to Jawonio because of a family member who shared that there were LPN positions available. So, my first job was at Bobbi Lewis.  While I took another job for a few years in between, I came to realize that the team at Jawonio really valued me as part of the health care team and so I came back as a full time RN Supervisor.

In my role here, I am reminded every day, that ALL OF US  have the power to impact our individuals whether you are a DSP, LPN or RN. My job gives me the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the people we serve.

What do you like to do with your free time?

I like to travel, go out to dinner with friends and family and watch my favorite TV shows.

Lastly, as a member of the Nursing Team, what would you want people to know about Jawonio and the culture?

The culture here allows me to connect with others, respecting human dignity, giving care to individuals with compassion, actively listening and being emotionally present. Jawonio stands for independence which is our nursing practice as well.

Do you feel you are exactly where you are supposed to be?

Not exactly,  but not where I was a year ago. Still rising.

Thank you Ellen, and keep on rising!! If you are a nursing student, or interested in a nursing career at Jawonio, please visit indeed.com/cmp/Jawonio-2/jobs
