Labor Day and Jawonio: Celebrating the Power of Work

"Every worker, regardless of their abilities, deserves the opportunity to contribute, to find purpose, and to experience the inherent dignity of labor. On this Labor Day, let us celebrate the achievements of all workers, including those who overcome challenges to make a valuable impact on our world."

Labor Day is a time to honor the American worker and celebrate the contributions they make to our society. This holiday also aligns with our mission to empower individuals with special needs to reach their highest potential. For more than 30 years, Jawonio Community Employment Services has been a leader in job placement with an incredible record of success. We are so proud of our staff “then and now” who, for the past 30 years,  have placed more than 6000 individuals with developmental disabilities, including Autism, and Mental Health challenges in good jobs throughout the Lower Hudson Valley Region.

The Interconnectedness of Work and Disability

The concept of work is deeply intertwined with our sense of identity and purpose. For individuals with disabilities, work can provide a vital connection to society, fostering feelings of independence, accomplishment, and belonging. At Jawonio, we believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to contribute their unique skills and talents to the workforce.

A Commitment to Empowering Workers

Our vocational and employment services staff are dedicated to creating a supportive and inclusive environment where individuals can thrive. We provide training, vocational skill-building and work with community employers for job placements in fields from retail, technology, hospitality, and educational sectors as we work together, to break down barriers and promote social inclusion.

The Value of Hard Work

Work is a universal value that transcends cultural and socioeconomic boundaries. It is a testament to our dedication, perseverance, and commitment to our goals. When we overcome obstacles and achieve our dreams, we experience a profound sense of accomplishment and satisfaction.

Feeling So Productive

Feeling productive is essential for our mental and emotional well-being. It gives us a sense of purpose and fulfillment. For individuals with disabilities, finding meaningful work can be a powerful tool for boosting self-esteem and confidence. By providing opportunities for employment and personal growth, Jawonio is helping to empower individuals to feel productive and valued members of society.

Labor Day is a time to celebrate the American worker and the contributions they make to our communities. At Jawonio, we are proud to be a part of this tradition by empowering individuals with disabilities to reach their full potential through meaningful employment. By fostering a culture of inclusion, support, and hard work, we are helping to create a more just and equitable society for all.
