An Interview with Randi Rios-Castro:
As Associate Executive Director for the past 2 years, what have you learned about Jawonio, the culture, the staff, services and role in the community?
Jawonio is composed of a very diverse group of people but all share a common thread and that is the commitment and dedication they have to those we serve. Over the past 2 years, I have observed the compassion and care that the staff exhibit in delivering services. I have witnessed staff going above and beyond in their roles to ensure our participants have rich and valuable experiences that promote their well-being and independence. I have experienced the passion and hard work that makes Jawonio the exceptional provider that it is. Our board of directors, staff, families and community are the foundation of our success and their support of our mission is unsurpassed.
What has Jill’s mentorship and leadership meant to you at Jawonio?
Jill has been a great mentor over the past 2 years. Her leadership and guidance during my time at Jawonio have assisted me in gaining a better understanding of the organization as well as the communities we touch. She has been generous in her time and sharing her knowledge. Her introduction to community leaders has helped to forge relationships that would have taken me longer to forge on my own. She has also been generous in the sharing of her experiences over the years which has given me a perspective I would not otherwise have. My one regret is that I did not have the opportunity to work alongside Jill longer.
As only the 5th CEO in the history of Jawonio what excites you the most about the future?
As only the 5th CEO of Jawonio, I look forward to continuing the amazing work my predecessors started and building upon their achievements. Jawonio is a family with a rich history and a strong foundation. There are endless possibilities for Jawonio, our staff and those we serve. I look forward to working alongside a great team to identify those possibilities and see them to fruition. I am committed to building an environment of collaboration and unleashing the potential of all members of the Jawonio community.
My challenge to staff is a quote from Golda Meir that says ”make the most of yourself by fanning the tiny, inner sparks of possibility into flames of achievement.” Together there is nothing we can’t achieve.
