Early Intervention Services​ (Birth – 3 Years)

Jawonio’s Early Intervention Program is part of the state and national Early Intervention Program for infants and toddlers with disabilities and their families. To be eligible for services, children must be under 3 years of age and have a confirmed disability or established developmental delay, as defined by the state, in one or more of the following areas of development: physical, cognitive, communication, social-emotional, and/or adaptive. Services are provided based on the students’ Individualized Family Service Plan and include special education, occupational, physical and speech therapy, feeding therapy, service coordination, multidisciplinary evaluations, and an adaptive equipment clinic. Developmental groups are provided in morning and afternoon sessions at the Main Campus in New City. Jawonio also provides on-site services at the Main Campus or in families’ homes.

Goodwin D. Katzen Early Childhood Education Center​ (Full-Day Preschool)

Special Education (Preschool)

Approved by the New York State Education Department and licensed by the Office of Children and Family Services, Jawonio’s special education program supports the therapeutic, educational, and social/emotional needs of children aged 3-5 within self-contained and integrated classrooms. Eligibility for the program is based on the determination of the Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) in the child’s home school district. The program addresses the specific goals and objectives of each child’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) through specialized instruction, counseling, speech-language, physical and occupational therapies. Extended care options are available for parents.

Private Pay Preschool (3-5 Years)

Approved by the New York State Education Department and licensed by the Office of Children and Family Services, Jawonio’s

Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) (4 Years)

Funded by the NY State Education Department, UPK provides a free preschool experience for 4-year-old students who will be eligible for kindergarten the following year. Open five days a week (based on the school calendar) for 5.5 hours, the program provides rich learning experiences for students following an approved curriculum. Opportunities for parent participation are offered and encouraged throughout the school year. Students are accepted from all school districts in Rockland County. Parents should contact their local school district for information regarding the application process. The program accommodates working families with extended hours from 7:00 am until 5:30 pm. The program is licensed by the Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) and meets or exceeds childcare regulations.

Respite – Jawonio School Age Care (JSAC) (5-8 Years)

JSAC is an after-school care program for children with disabilities ages 5-8 which operates Monday through Friday (September-June following the school calendar) from 3:00 pm – 5:30 pm. Early arrival is available at 2:45 pm. The program is free for children with OPWDD approval for hourly respite, with registration required. There is a fee for service for those not approved for OPWDD
respite hours.

Summer Education Program (5-22 Years)

Jawonio’s Summer Education Program is a 6-week educational and recreational program which provides extended school year services for students with disabilities, ages 5-22. Certified special education teachers and related service providers tailor the program to each student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP). Approved by the NYS Education Department, students become eligible to attend the program based on the determination of the Committee on Education (CSE) in their home school district.
