Today Senator David Carlucci and his Communications Director Justin Devendorf visited our Jawonio Tech building to visit some of our staff and consumers. Together we celebrated the passing of the ABLE act in New York State. Senator Carlucci was instrumental in getting this important legislation passed for individuals with disabilities.
The ABLE (Achieving a Better Life Experience) Act is federal legislation that aims to ease financial strains faced by individuals with disabilities by making tax-free savings accounts available to cover qualified expenses.
Julio Vargas, Jawonio Supervisor and Jill Warner, CEO said a few words at the event.
“Jawonio’s lifelong mission of achieving independence has finally come true with the establishment of the Able Act Law” – Julio Vargas
“We are grateful for the opportunity to celebrate with Senator Carlucci today the passage of the Able Act. For too many years people with disabilities who could enter the workforce or save money were limited due to an income/savings restriction to access benefits. This legislation removes this barrier and is a giant step forward in the effort for full inclusion of people with special needs into our society.” – Jill Warner
The passing of the ABLE act will have a tremendous impact on the families we serve here at Jawonio and we are so thankful for Senator Carlucci’s support and hard work in the community.
