On January 13, 2018, members of Jawonio attended the Eagle Scout Court of Honor Ceremony for John McGinn, held by New City Troop 97 at Clarkstown High School North.
John created a poster, showcasing the incredible work he put in to his construction of the new greenhouse, which is ready to use for all enrolled in the Early Childhood Education Services programs for daycare and preschoolers in New City! In order to raise funds for his project, John held a family bowling night at New City Bowl.
John notes: “I chose Jawonio because they have helped me so much in my life and it only made sense to give something back to them…The main aspect of my project was the installation of a greenhouse outside of the Jawonio Daycare in New City. I built planters in the greenhouse that are useable for all kids that attend. Classes will be able to grow different plants and learn about gardening in a fun and interactive environment.”
Take a look at John’s poster in full, check out highlights from the ceremony, and read in his own heartfelt words what this Eagle Scout Project meant, and still means to him.
John along with his fellow Eagle Scout Honoree Christian, were able to meet County Executive Ed Day, who said a few words at the Court of Honor Ceremony. John also met with Jawonio’s Jerry Staller, Division Director of Education & Clinical Services.
Jill Warner, Executive Director/CEO and Jerry Staller from Jawonio were proud to present a certificate of appreciation to John, for his dedication, talent, and time!
Thank you again for your expertise and care, John. The newly built greenhouse and work put in to this innovative project will shine through on our campus for years to come! We are looking forward to seeing the greenhouse in use once springtime begins!
