The Peer Support Specialist is an individual who has lived experience in mental health and/ or substance use recovery and uses his or her experience to support others in their recovery.
The Peer Support Specialist works with the Client’s Care Manager and Client by assisting in obtaining services that suit individual’s recovery needs by providing necessary transportation and supports to client in the process of obtaining community entitlements, benefits and community resources. Facilitating and coordinating outreach to Rockland-based people with mental health, physical and medical needs. Uses agency vehicle to visit local Adult Homes within Rockland County, with home office based out of our New Hempstead, TECH, and Rockland location. Serves as referral to and liaison with community resources available to include but not limited to, medical, behavioral health, substance abuse-recovery services and social services. You will educate people who are in need, the availability and accessibility of services in order to improve their overall quality of life.
Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED.(Required)
- Under NYS OMH requirements, current or former recipients of mental health services, diagnosed with a psychiatric disability preferred.
- Acceptable combination of education and experience
- A valid NY State Driver’s License and ability to drive and driving record acceptable for agency insurance coverage are required.
- Remain current in all required trainings
- Must be cleared and maintain acceptable record under the NYS mandated criminal background check process.
- Must be clear and maintain an acceptable record under the Medicaid Fraud & Abuse clearance process.
