Meet Clint Walker, DSP – New City Day Hab

Clint Walker has been working for Jawonio for almost ten years. He joined Jawonio in 2009, and started as a DSP Assistant, then promoted to DSP shortly after. He came to work for Jawonio through the Community Employment Services Program and quickly became an important and integral part of our team.

Clint had previously worked with children at an agency in Dutchess County, where co-workers there talked about the DSP field, which sparked his interest. When Clint began exploring DSP opportunities, he found out about Jawonio.

“The most rewarding part of my job is helping to improve the lives of the consumers. I love working with all of them,” says Clint.

Clint’s typical day starts at 8am at the agency. He does the morning welcome, greeting consumers at their vans, helping them out of the vans and getting their day started. He begins the day with passing around morning coffee for the participants. If they have a scheduled outing, he accompanies them on outings in the community. If they don’t go out for the day, he assists with games and activities for the morning, then at 12noon helps participants with their lunches, heating up the hot lunches and assisting them in any way they need. After lunch, participants engage in afternoon activities until 2pm. Clint assists with personal care and activities throughout his work day, and helps people pack up, and get ready to head home at 2:30pm. Clint is a certified driver and certified in wheel chair tie downs, so he will occasionally drive and transport participants to and from outings. Clint also works in the Afternoon Respite program at Jawonio Tech 2 days a week, where participants engage in free, social, and recreational activities.

“Clint brings such a good positive attitude to his work every day. He is incredibly reliable, and is always willing to go the extra mile to help out. He has a very quiet and gentle manner with everyone. His caring, calm and gentle way of interacting with people helps create a positive atmosphere for everyone,” says Julio Vargas, New City Day Hab Supervisor.

Thank you Clint, and to all of our DSP staff, for making Jawonio the special and caring place that it is for the special people we provide care to.
