Meet Marlene Richez, DSP at Paul J. Tendler Condos
Marlene just had her 10 year anniversary working at Jawonio, having worked here since May of 2018. She started at Jawonio by simply stopping into the main Administrative Offices and applying for a job. She had previously worked at Home Aides of Rockland as a certified home health aide, and before that she had worked at Novartis for five years. She was looking for additional hours in the direct care field and found Jawonio.
Marlene started as a DSP floater working from the beginning at the Condos residence and has been there ever since. Her typical day starts at 7am when she arrives at the condos to check the residents schedules and transportation schedule for the day. She helps prepare residents for their day, to get ready to go out. They typically leave the residence at around 8:30am. Marlene is a certified driver and brings residents to their medical appointments, day programs and other activities. Occasionally she will also work the overnight shift when coverage is needed when she assists with medications, personal care and evening activities. Marlene’s day ends at about 3:30 after picking up and transporting residents from their programs and appointments back to the condos for the evening.
“The most rewarding part of my job is taking people out into the community for their different activities like the theatre, a walk, an event, or to a group. Each person is different and has a different approach to life, some like to be out all of the time and others want to stay close to home more. We make adjustments based on what each person needs,” says Marlene about her work. Marlene also shared, “everyone on the staff gets along and works well together as a team. We keep the program running smoothly.”
“Marlene exemplifies her role as a DSP and ensures that individuals in the Condos are supported in their lives. She strives every day to help them maintain their independence. Marlene also takes on the role of a Senior Staff in the condo program and helps train new DSP staff on our agency mission and core values. Marlene is a tremendous asset to the condo program,” says Stephen Pegram, CLS Senior Manager.more. We make adjustments based on what each person needs,” says Marlene about her work. Marlene also shared, “everyone on the staff gets along and works well together as a team. We keep the program running smoothly.”
Thank you Marlene, and to all of our DSP staff, for making Jawonio the special and caring place that it is for the special people we provide care to.
