From the Desk Of Jill Warner, CEO
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your commitment, your intense focus, and your incredible compassion to make sure that the health, safety and wellness of our individuals is preserved.
A lot has happened at Jawonio in one week’s time related to the coronavirus, and information continues to change rapidly. We urge all staff to continue to follow the CDC guidelines and instructions for social distancing, hand hygiene and to practice universal precautions.
Yesterday, I happened to be looking out my office window where I watched a CLS employee lifting boxes of personal protective equipment (PPE) and supplies out of her car and giving them to one of a few essential staff, who will deploy the supplies to our group homes. I could not have been more proud to watch as our staff worked together to do what was needed to keep the people we care for and our staff safe. This is who we are…This is Jawonio.
Though we cannot predict the future, or even predict the next few days or weeks, I want to remind you that Jawonio is following all of the guidelines and protocols from our experts in the federal government, as well as our NYS Department of Health. Just a reminder, if the health department makes us aware that someone tests positive for coronavirus, their instructions will be for that individual or group that had potential exposure, to self-quarantine for 14 days. We will notify you immediately if you are affected.
We all feel anxious with so much information coming to us all at once. Therefore, in our ongoing efforts to provide consistent communications for all staff, families and stakeholders, I will be hosting a series of live teleconference Town Halls. This will be an opportunity to provide accurate information in as real time as possible. On Monday, March 23rd we will be sending you the dates and times for you to join me. Please don’t forget our resources that are now available for you, including the Jawonio website and Facebook page, and the Jawonio Info Line for Coronavirus updates at: 845-708-2020.
Finally, to our essential direct support staff, including our DSPs, RNs and LPNs, clinicians, cleaners, maintenance staff, along with our day services instructors, specialists and coordinators who are managing the minute by minute critical care and support services at the houses -- You are shining stars.
I hope that your weekend will be filled with moments of self-care and kindness for you and your families.
Let me leave you with a quote that I feel is very fitting for our work during this crisis
“There is no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up.”
Thank you very much. And as I have said before, let’s continue to support and help each other. We will get through this crisis by working together and supporting each other.
