CEO Newsletter: Summer 2019 Highlights

A Message From Jill:

Welcome to Summer! It is one of my favorite times of the year when we welcome back the children and staff of our amazing Summer Education Program for six weeks of fun, growth and friendships. As we celebrate Independence Day this week it is a time to reflect on the independence that people with special needs in our community have gained thanks to the Americans with Disabilities Act and other legislation that has supported the efforts of Jawonio and our sister agencies across the state and the country.

Botwinick House Naming

In June, we had the honor of dedicating and renaming one of our residences after two incredibly inspiring individuals, Gloria and Arnold Botwinick, in memory of their outstanding work as advocates for people with disabilities. Barbara Algranati, their daughter, a Jawonio staff member, said at the ceremony, “They got involved because of Michael, and stayed involved because of all of the Michaels of the world.” Barbara’s brother Michael has been with Jawonio since he was an infant, over 50 years ago. It is parents and families like these that help us to continue and succeed at our work, helping the thousands of children and adults we serve each year to achieve and exceed their dreams.
It is for this reason that we need to build for tomorrow, and you can help us! There has been great progress on the Jawonio Main Campus Redevelopment project since my last newsletter. You can see in the photo that the foundation has been poured and completed and the steel structure is going up rapidly. The project is on track for completion by Spring of 2020. It is critically important, now more than ever, that you continue to stay engaged, and consider making a gift to the capital campaign to help us reach the final phase. I ask you to join us at our 2019 events and help Jawonio achieve its goals of building a bright future for people with special needs and their families.

Your participation at any level will go a long way in helping us cross the finish line. You can see the progress of both our construction project and the capital campaign on our Foundation section of the website.
I know that by working together, we will build a new and beautiful campus. We will create an environment where innovation is an everyday occurrence, and thousands of children and adults with special needs will be empowered to live a life beyond their wildest dreams.
