Jawonio is thrilled to honor Debbie Roth with the Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s 11th Annual Kidz Express. Debbie has devoted her professional career to the needs of young children in the field of Early Intervention and Early Childhood Education, and has been a tremendous leader for the County and Early Intervention providers. She recently retired from the Rockland County Department of Health where she worked for over 27 years. Debbie started at the Department of Health in the position of Service Coordinator and held several positions over the years including her most recent as Child Program Coordinator, a position from which she retired in March of this year.
“Our ability to be successful with Early Intervention in this county has a lot to do with Debbie’s leadership over the years. She has helped us navigate the challenges with the state. We are thrilled to thank her for her leadership and years of services,” says Jerry Staller, Division Director of Clinical and Educational Services at Jawonio.
Debbie was an incredible leader for Early Intervention services in Rockland County, particularly at the time of the state’s restructuring of the program in 2013. Her leadership was essential for the county and provider agencies alike to ensure a smooth transition, and that providers and the county were operating within the new guidelines. Her leadership also ensured that critical Early Intervention services for the children continued uninterrupted, and as efficiently as possible. Debbie also helped the Jawonio Loan Closet gain traction throughout the county, establishing it as the place to go for families who need equipment to care for their children with disabilities and special needs so that they don’t have to wait six months for a piece of equipment that they need.
“I can’t imagine Rockland County having an Early Intervention program without Jawonio. The breadth of services Jawonio provides to families, the expertise of its staff, its ability to take on some of the most medically fragile children, and meet their needs as well as the incredible Loan Closet they created to make equipment available to families to meet their children’s needs, all adds up to Jawonio being a jewel of Rockland County for Early Intervention and children’s services,” says Debbie.
